There are more than 100 billion galaxies scattered throughout the visible universe….Small galaxies have fewer than a billion stars. Large galaxies have more than a trillion.

Abraham Lincoln — “the fuel of interest to the fire of genius in the discovery… of new and useful things.”

There are some oddities in the perspective with which we see the world. The fact that we live at the bottom of a deep gravity well, on the surface of a gas covered planet going around a nuclear fireball 90 million miles away and think this to be normal is obviously some indication of how skewed our perspective tends to be.”
Douglas Adams

“Frequently consider the connection of all things in the universe.
We should not say I am an Athenian or I am a Roman but I am a citizen of the Universe. ”
(Marcus Aurelius, Meditations)

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
Albert Einstein

Earth is home. Evolution connects us all. Death comes to all. On this blue Planet we the human species are united by our common habitation, our common origin and our common mortality.
The actual is greater than the superficial and the certainty of death can be a driving force for solidarity and not a suppressed anxiety that drives us towards division and despair. The uncertainty of life and the certainty of death unite all of us who come to this existence on this blue planet.
“Our lives, our past and our future are tied to the sun, the moon and the stars. We humans have seen the atoms which constitute all of nature and the forces that sculpted this work and we, who embody the local eyes and ears and thoughts and feelings of the cosmos, have begun to wonder about our origins star stuff contemplating the stars, organized collections of ten billion billion billion atoms, contemplating the evolution of nature, tracing that long path by which it arrived at consciousness here on the planet earth.
We are one species.
We are star stuff harvesting star light.”
Carl Sagan

“Asia and Europe: tiny corners of the Cosmos. Every sea: a mere drop. Mount Athos: a lump of dirt. The present moment is the smallest point in all eternity. All is microscopic, changeable, disappearing. All things come from that faraway place, either originating directly from that governing part which is common to all, or else following from it as consequences. So even the gaping jaws of the lion, deadly poison, and all harmful things like thorns or an oozing bog are products of that awesome and noble source. Do not imagine these things to be alien to that which you revere, but turn your Reason to the source of all things.”
— Marcus Aurelius

Our brains are limited. It may take a posthuman species to work out the big questions.

“Einstein averred that “the most incomprehensible thing about the Universe is that it is comprehensible”. He was right to be astonished. Our minds evolved to cope with life on the African savannah, but can comprehend a great deal about the counterintuitive microworld of atoms, and about the vastness of the cosmos.

Indeed, Einstein would have been specially gratified at how our cosmic horizons have expanded. Our Sun is one of a hundred billion stars in our galaxy, which is itself one of many billion of galaxies in range of our telescopes. And there is firm evidence that these all emerged from a hot dense “beginning” nearly 14 billion years ago. (…)

Science is a global culture. Its universality is specially compelling in my own subject of astronomy. The dark night sky is an inheritance we’ve shared with all humanity, throughout history. All have gazed up in wonder at the same vault of heaven, but interpreted it in diverse ways.

It’s a cultural deprivation not to appreciate the panorama offered by modern cosmology and Darwinian evolution — the chain of emergent complexity leading from some still-mysterious beginning to atoms, stars and planets. And how, on our planet, life emerged and evolved into a biosphere containing creatures with brains able to ponder their origins. This common understanding should transcend all national differences — and all faiths too.

As science’s frontiers expand, their periphery lengthens; new questions come into focus. But a fundamental issue then arises: are there some questions that will for ever flummox us? Are there intrinsic limits to our understanding?
Sir Martin Rees

As soon as the lads stepped off the coach they got a real taste of life as a pro footballer.
Uniteds ultra-experienced first team coach; Rene Meulensteen kicked things off with some intensive drills. By the time it came to the session warm-down, the Academy boys knew it was going to be a seriously tough weekend
As well as counter-attacking drills, fast-paced small-sided games and tactical awareness lessons, the Academy boys were also schooled on what makes a well-rounded footballer.
Mental training expert Jamie Edwards got their minds focused on how to maintain a flawless attitude. Can I get myself into the frame of mind when Ive been at my best? And if I can, then I can do it again and again…
The Nike Academy trainees returned to London on Sunday, knowing theyll need to put everything on the line to edge closer to a professional contract.

The working title is called "The Strategist”. Set in a turbulent age very reminiscent of the time between the Renaissance and the Dark-ages; a world divided by war and intrigue. The story is about a prince, the eldest son of an empress, a military genius that re-united her country and expanded its borders, and her great general who helped her achieve her goals.

After his mother’s death of an unexpected illness, leaving her ambitions incomplete and his father, the Lord Commander, heart-broken; their son, the Crown Prince intends to finish what his mother started and what his father left unfinished: By becoming the man forever known as the one who started his family’s reputation and tradition of producing the greatest military strategists and tacticians in their collective history, but was also known among his victims as "The Beast", who manipulated events and people, twisting their minds, causing chaos and madness everywhere he went to serve his purpose…

But first he’s got to do something about this war….and he plans to make it much worse.

Character description:

The Prince-the titular strategist. Highly intelligent, with a flair for deception and treachery, he’s one of the finest examples of his family’s mind for warfare and one of the dynasty’s most infamous members. Though charming, confident, charismatic, polite, a devoted family man, egalitarian, and actually a rather pleasant person to be with most of the time (if you’re in his side at least), he is also haughty, selfish, self-indulgent, somewhat unreasonable, stubborn, and as implied highly Machiavellian; a contrast to his father, who is known to be noble and kind man. He has no martial talent, but opted to learn swordplay as a means to keep himself fit-and alive, if the need to fight ever arose, and in which grew quite proficient with but never outstanding-his true worth lies in his education and talent as a military and political thinker. Unlike his parents, who both had blond hair, he had inherited his grandfather’s (his parents were cousins) light brown hair and his eyes are blue-almost purple. He stands at around 6′ and is said to be very handsome.

This is a very well planned story, genius! I think that the author put lots of time a lot of effort into this very exciting sounding story.

It’s the 1930s All Over Again
by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
by Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.

DIGG THIS

Jittery stock markets, an economy drunk on credit, and politicians calling for varieties of dictatorship: what a sense of déjà vu! Let us recall that the world went bonkers for about ten years way back when. The stock market crashed in 1929, thanks to the Federal Reserve, and with it fell the last remnants of the old liberal ideology that government should leave society and economy alone to flourish. After the federal Great Depression hit, there was a general air in the United States and Europe that freedom hadn’t worked. What we needed were strong leaders to manage and plan economies and societies.

And how they were worshipped. On the other side of the world, there were Stalin and Hitler and Mussolini, but in the United States we weren’t in very good shape either. Here we had FDR, who imagined himself capable of astonishing feats of price setting and economy boosting. Of course he used old-fashioned tricks: printing money and threatening people with guns. It was nothing but the ancient despotism brought back in pseudo-scientific garb.

Things didn’t really return to normal until after the war. These "great men" of history keeled over eventually, but look what they left: welfare states, inflationary banking systems, high taxes, massive debt, mandates on business, and regimes with a penchant for meddling at the slightest sign of trouble. They had their way even if their absurd posturing became unfashionable later.

It’s strange to go back and read opinion pieces from those times. It’s as if everyone just assumed that we had to have either fascism or socialism, and that the one option to be ruled out was laissez-faire. People like Mises and Hayek had to fight tooth and nail to get a hearing. The Americans had some journalists who seemed to understand, but they were few and far between.

So what was the excuse for such a shabby period in ideological history? Why did the world go crazy? It was the Great Depression, or so says the usual explanation. People were suffering and looking for answers. They turned to a Strongman to bail them out. There was a fashion for scientific planning, and the suffering economy (caused by the government, of course) seemed to bolster the rationale.

All of which brings me to a strange observation: when it comes to politics, we aren’t that much better off today. It’s true that we don’t have people running for office in ridiculous military suits. They don’t scream at us or give sappy fireside chats or purport to be the embodiment of the social mind. The tune is slightly changed, but the notes and rhythms are the same.

Have you listened carefully to what the Democrats are proposing in the lead-up to the presidential election? It’s just about as disgusting as anything heard in the 1930s: endless government programs to solve all human ills. It’s as if they can’t think in any other way, as if their whole worldview would collapse if they took notice of the fact that government can’t do anything right.

But it also seems like they are living on another planet. The stock market has a long way to fall before it reaches anything we could call low. Mortgage interest rates are creeping along at the lowest possible rates. Unemployment is close to 4%, which is lower than even Keynesians of old could imagine in their wildest dreams.

The private sector is creating a miracle a day, even as the stuff that government attempts is failing left and right. The bureaucracies are as wasteful and useless as they’ve ever been, spending is already insanely high, debt is skyrocketing, and there’s no way that any American believes himself to be under-taxed.

The Democrats, meanwhile, go about their merry business as if the public schools were a model for all of society. Oh, and let us not forget their brilliant idea of shutting down the industrial economy and human prosperity so the government can plan the weather 100 years from now. We can only hope that there are enough serious people left to put a stop to this harebrained idea.

But before we get carried away about the Democrats, let’s say a few words about the bloodthirsty Republicans, who think of war not as something to regret, but rather the very moral life of the nation. For them, justice equals Guantánamo Bay, and public policy means a new war every month, and vast subsidies to the military-industrial complex and such other Republican-friendly firms as the big pharmaceutical companies. Sure, they pay lip service to free enterprise, but it’s just a slogan to them, unleashed whenever they fear that they are losing support among the bourgeois merchant class.

So there we have it. Our times are good, and yet we face a choice between two forms of central planning. They are varieties of socialism and fascism, but not overtly: they disguise their ideological convictions so that we won’t recognize that they and their ilk have certain predecessors in the history of political economy.

Into this mix steps Ron Paul, with a message that has stunned millions. He says again and again that government is not the way out. And even though his political life is nothing short of heroic, he doesn’t believe that his candidacy is about him and his personal ambitions. He talks of Bastiat, Hazlitt, Mises, Hayek, and Rothbard – in public campaign speeches. And let no one believe that this is just rhetoric. Take a look at his voting record if you doubt it. Even the New York Times is amazed to discover that there is a principled man in politics.

It is impressive how crowds are hard pressed to disagree with him. How much good is he doing? It is impossible to exaggerate it. He provides hope when we need it most. You see, the American economy may look good on the surface but underneath, the foundation is cracking. The debt is unsustainable. Savings are nearly nonexistent. Money supply creation is getting scary. The paper-money economy can’t last and won’t last. One senses that the slightest change could cause unforeseen wreckage.

What would happen should the bottom fall out? Scary thought. We need ever more public spokesmen for our cause. In many ways, the Mises Institute bears a heavy burden as the world’s leading institutional voice for peace and economic liberty. So does LewRockwell.com. And we are working in every way possible to make sure that the flame of freedom is not extinguished, even in the face of legions of charlatans and power-mongers. Even though the politics of our times is as dark as ever, there are bright lights on the horizon.

July 28, 2007

Llewellyn H. Rockwell,

Yes, it’s politics as usual. Back to the 1930′s my father worked as a truck driver and made $1 per day. We lived in a shack on my grandfather’s ranch. The Oakies were pouring into California trying to work their way to food on the table by picking prunes (California prune pickers) and every other crop grown in our state. In fact, they were hungry enough to do the work that Mexican illegals do now. Things were not good even though one relative bought a 3 bedroom house in Fresno, CA (Pop under 10,000) for $2,000. The point I’m trying to make is this, there is both good and bad to a major depression which might be what we are headed into. I lost about $10,000 on the stock market last month and my investments are solid, no fly-by-night crap. Nothing economically is going well at this time and that is to be expected. Historically a depression hits every 30 years. We have taken great measures to prevent that, like taking the silver and gold out of money in the 1960s so your money is only worth the cost of the paper it is printed on. At this point money is only relative to manipulation. Greenspan, genius of finances vascillates in and out of the federal government doing what he can but the end result is he can do nothing to stop what is happening. Watch the implosion of the housing market. It is not scary to me, it is reality and reality is something the younger generation has never before had to face. It is time for a change that will take the gangs off the streets because they will be hungry just like everyone else. I see what is happening as possibly the last great hope for people in the US even though most of us, myself included will suffer a financial blow. Humanity will take a far greater step for mankind.

this property is listed on rentalhouses.com I sent an email (as it was the only way to contact them) asking if the property was still available this is the response email I got ""Hello!!!

Thanks for the email.. I sincerely apologize for responding late. I had a tight schedule with lots of assignment.Yes the House is still available and will only be given out to the right person that will take very good care of the place and the facilities..
The house has a lot of facilities like Breakfast area/room, Formal dining room, Tile flooring, Vinyl flooring, Wall to wall carpeting, 9 ft.+ ceiling(s), Walk-in closet(s). The kitchen has a dishwasher, stove, microwave/ventilator, double sinks with a disposal, pantry, tile back splash and wainscoting. Cathedral Ceiling(s), Gas Water Heater, Paddle Fans, Smoke Alarms, Breakfast Room, Entry Room, Great Room, Study/Office, Dishwasher, Dryer, Garbage Disposal, Microwave, Range, Refrigerator, Washer, Water Softener. The Patio House is inform of Cottage and is fenced. The house has a Great Room which is 20×14 Level: 1, Bedroom 1 is 15×13 Level: 1, Bedroom 2 is 14×10 Level: 1, Bedroom 3 is 12×10 Level: 1, Breakfast Room is 12×9 Level: 1 and other necessary facilities….

I have really decided to give out the house as a result of my transfer to London ( UK)…..No awesome credit.. The house is not under any property management, I have withdraw my house from their listings…and I am taking charge of my house personally as the landlord, that was the reason why the house rent is low, because there is no broker fee attached to it, and I am renting it out for a good family that will take care of my house not just a wealthy family..

I will be giving out the house for $600 with a security deposit of $900. I need to inform you as well that money is not the major reason why I am renting it out but want someone who can take care of it as if he/she owns it. So let me know as soon as possible if you can take good care of it, so that we can discuss the rent further. Pets are allowed.

We initially wanted to sale the house but we changed our minds and decided to rent it out because the economy is bad and it has also affected the housing market. We might decide to sale in the future but for now we are just renting it out.

The keys are with me and there is nobody of mine that can show you the inside of the house. I hope the pictures I sent to you, can give you the ideal inside of the house. The keys will be sent to you, if you are ready to rent the house and on the condition that the security deposit has been paid.

After receiving the keys and you are not okay with the house, your money is refundable, and our keys should not spent upto 2days with you, before posting it back to us, otherwise, we will agree that you are okay with the house.

If you are interested you can go by and view it but you will not be able to go inside cause the keys are here with me in United Kingdom .. Here is the address of the house ( 6119 VENETIAN WAY N Mobile, AL 36608 ).
I await your reply.

Karman Afzal & Alia Sharif
+447024036772.. """

First thing is a house like this generally goes for around $1,100/mo to rent.
Second he is in another country
Third he has no one here to show the house and wants the deposit sent in order to get the keys sent.
If it is legitimate I would love to rent it but it seems strange to me. Is there anyway to make sure I dont get a $900 deposit stolen from me and never receiver keys, or move into a home that is about to be forclosed on or something? thanks
How and where can I see who owns the house?

Your common sense serves you right. This definitely is a scam, and you should forward the email to rentalhouses.com. I am certain that they would want to know that someone is using their site to conduct a scam.

I’m trying to come up with a great fund raiser for my Model United Nations Group and have it be something everyone can enjoy. I wanted something that could relate to the group or maybe not, as long as it is fun, we don’t have to spend a ton of cash, since all of us are practically broke. Something that would not seem ridiculous to people see senior students and the students themselves do. Most importantly, that would get as many people as possible to get the most, and still have them enjoy and remember it all. I have, honestly, tried my best but nothing works. And I have been reprimanded that I jut don’t know how to let out a good idea. Heck, a fellow member suggested a pen sale and everyone got excited but I got stared down because I thought we could do better.

Our goal is to raise over $2500 since we are taking a trip to the Harvard Simulation this upcoming December. The revenue would include transportation, accommodations, food (though hopefully we can work something about this ourselves), and some left over for future events. We are all trying our best but nothing really comes up. I am especially trying my best because I’m the underdog of the group, and no matter how I hard I try I get looked over. I want to show that even if it wasn’t my idea, i could be an effective leader and ask for help if i need it. I know I , and WE need help, and even if our captain says otherwise, I am asking to please help me out. I think that being a good leader means knowing when to need help, and i am asking any of you to help out.

I hope it could be something that you tried before and worked in a sense, and maybe how you got to the event, like getting connections, or how you got to have a certain place to be the locale. I would greatly appreciate all your help and thank you who provide ides for at least taking your time to help out.

If it helps:

Our team consists of 17 kids.
We are broke.
We love to party, and entertain.
We almost have no lives, too much activity, and so looking for something strange or somehow strange.
We like to compromise
We live in a very multi cultured city. Think MA version of NYC.
We are outspoken, and most of us are girls
Our city or citizens don’t have a lot of moola, at least the majority
We like to get out when we can
We love to see happy people and hear hat they have to say
We volunteer like it’s the end of the world
We are flashy
We’re cheap
We love food, ALL OF US!!
Our coordinator, wants something not done commonly
Did I mention we are ambitious?
And we like culture, whether it’s a culture that rain dances, lambada, or any freaky tradition….

JUST PLEASE HELP US OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S: I don’t mind if your explanations take a gazillion paragraphs, pages, or if you have books, videos, websites, blogs, or whatever or if you have to email me, or contact me, you have the freedom to do so as long as you’re no perv. And hopefully, in a town where parents are used to getting asked to buy stuff all the time, something exciting, new, and something THEY WANT AND NEED AND INTERESTS THEM TO BUY MORE!! Oh and this is my first time doing and trying to think of a fund raiser. Just in case that helps. Just being frank and safe, well unless you are a perv with good ideas for this…oh hell, JUST HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sincerely,

A. M.

go to the local newspaper and walk in… don’t email. Tell them what you are doing. Would they do a story about you. If they do, you will get calls from adults wanting to help and to donate.
Then go to the local tv station and ask to be on the morning program to tell about your project. Make this fun. /
